The peace and quiet beauty of Todd – located in Ashe County, NC, in its surroundings of mountains and river – is a pleasing contrast to the hustle-bustle of life not very far away. The tin-covered buildings in its central Historic District are strangely appealing. Mountain music and historic stores are an important part of Todd’s heritage and culture.

Todd features the Todd Island Park. This unique five-acre island is open from dawn to dusk. The walking trail around the perimeter allows you to view the wildlife on the island and in the river, as well as native plantings and trees.

The Walter and Anne Cook Park is the location of the Summer Music Series, the Todd New River Festival and the Liberty Parade celebration on the Fourth of July. Shop at the Todd General Store, the Todd Mercantile and other shops, take a bike ride along Railroad Grade Road, or enjoy a float down the river.

The Blue Ridge Parkway borders Ashe County for 20 miles from milepost 255 to milepost 275. During Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, the construction of the Parkway provided much-needed employment for the depressed region of our county and surrounding counties.

How We're Doing Our Part

The Northwest Trading Post at milepost 259 has offered local craftsmen an outlet in which to sell their art, homemade crafts, baked goods, and antiques in one magical historic venue.

Many Parkway travelers venture into our county’s unique communities and townships where they are greeted with small town charm, hospitality, local arts and crafts, and get a feeling of being in “God’s Country.”
