Bryson City is a mountain town that has it all – a quaint downtown filled with unique shopping and fantastic dining, some of the South’s finest whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River, boating and water sports on pristine Fontana Lake, and an incredible number of hiking and biking trails that range from recreational to world class. We are also home to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, which offers a full schedule of scenic excursions and special events, including Thomas the Tank Engine and the Polar Express. And if all this isn’t enough, we are within a two-hour drive of Asheville; The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest; Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Chimney Rock; Lake Lure; and more. Visit our Web site today to begin planning your getaway to the Center of the Smokies!
As stewards of the southernmost entrance, Bryson City and Swain County, the county in which Bryson City is located, have long enjoyed a close relationship with the Blue Ridge Parkway. Citizens of Bryson City and Swain County have given much to the creation, management, and future sustainability of the Parkway through volunteer hours and fundraising efforts. We are proud of the role we have played in the parkway’s past and look forward to another great 75 years as caretakers of America’s favorite drive.
