Lansing is a beautiful place full of smiling, friendly faces. Located in the Appalachian Mountains in rural northwestern Ashe County, North Carolina, Lansing is a growing community of tightly knit neighbors and a wonderful place to just relax, take things a little slower, and to get away from the hectic life of the big cities.

There are many interesting things to do in Lansing, including festivals year round for all ages and interests. The Ola Belle Reed Festival is held in August. Ola Belle Reed (1916-2002) was an acclaimed songwriter and musician, recognized by the Smithsonian, the National Endowment of the Arts, and many additional organizations. The festival features top-notch award-winning visiting and local musicians from Old-Time Mountain, Bluegrass, and folk traditions. In addition to the wonderful music, arts and crafts are available. Another great event is the Greater Lansing Area Festival held each September.

The Blue Ridge Parkway borders Ashe County for 20 miles from milepost 255 to milepost 275. During Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration, the construction of the Parkway provided much-needed employment for the depressed region of our county and surrounding counties.

How We're Doing Our Part

The Northwest Trading Post at milepost 259 has offered local craftsmen an outlet in which to sell their art, homemade crafts, baked goods, and antiques in one magical historic venue.

Many Parkway travelers venture into our county’s unique communities and townships where they are greeted with small town charm, hospitality, local arts and crafts, and get a feeling of being in “God’s Country.”
