One of Virginia’s oldest counties is one of its newest delights.

In Botetourt County you can retrace the steps of Lewis and Clark as they set out on their remarkable journey across the American continent. In 1803, the famous explorers departed from the frontier town of Fincastle.

Present-day Botetourt still offers lots of opportunities for discovery. A leisurely stroll through the Downtowns of Botetourt will reveal the history, charm, and hospitality of life in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway or other scenic byways in the County and you’ll discover why people choose to call this home. Grab a bike, lace up your hiking boots, or slip on your lifejacket for an outdoor adventure on one of our many trails or waterways.

The timeless wonder of Botetourt County awaits. Start exploring!

The nation’s longest and narrowest national park, the Blue Ridge Parkway, creates Botetourt County’s eastern boundary. From access points outside the Town of Buchanan and on Route 460 in Blue Ridge, visitors can drive one of the most scenic lengths of the parkway. Highlights along the Botetourt County section of the Parkway include Harvey’s Knob, the Appalachian Trail, and Apple Orchard Falls.
