Monteith Farmstead 111 Hometown Place Road Dillsboro NC
The Appalachian Women’s Museum, located at the Monteith Farmstead, 111 Hometown Place Road, Dillsboro, NC, will celebrate the restoration of the farmstead’s 1908 Canning House Kitchen with the opening of the exhibit “Women’s Work Preserving the Past Educating the Future.” The exhibit will focus on the traditional purpose of a canning house, the home preservation of food for the winter months, and will be from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
The Appalachian Women’s Museum’s mission is three-fold: to preserve and interpret the important, often undocumented, contributions of women in the cultural and natural history of the Appalachian region; to provide a forum for the understanding of historical events from the perspective of Appalachian Women; and to celebrate the variety and scope of their contributions past, present, and future.
