On August 6 and 7, 2010, the Historic Burnsville Town Square will host the 54th Annual Mt. Mitchell Crafts Fair where over 200 crafters offer handmade arts and crafts. In addition, the heritage of the fair is celebrated in “Heritage Hollow” under a giant tent by period costumed folks: basket weavers, candle makers, potters, and quilters, just to name a few. Honoring the 75th anniversary of the Parkway we will feature a booth on “The Building of the Blue Ridge Parkway.” Visitors young and old will learn about how the road was built, the rocks used to construct the bridges, how the rocks were cut, and much, much more. Even actual photos of the original construction will be on display.

Handmade crafts will be available including chairs and tables hand-hewn from rhododendron bushes and blacksmiths producing everything from whimsical fairies to frogs. Sparkling glass, gold, silver, and beaded jewelry, from contemporary to the very traditional, will also be offered. Pottery, candles, soaps, and lotions are available in every color, size, and shape, and we guarantee that you find at least one that you like and must have.

Replicas of old quilts adorn our buildings and barns but are also available on new quilts, purses, and clothing. Homemade jams, jellies, cakes, and sauces as good as Aunt Bea made are ready for you to take home. Southern foods available in the food court are the fare for the day.

Live entertainment including clogging groups and live bluegrass bands perform free of charge all day. Call the Yancey County Chamber of Commerce at 828.682.7413 or visit our Web site at http://www.YanceyChamber.com. Hours of the Fair Friday and Saturday are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. No pets please!
