Fort Dobbs NC State Historic Site, 438 Fort Dobbs Road, Statesville, NC

The preparation and presentation of food was a very important part of everyday life in the 18th century. Compare the simple rations of 1750s soldiers to dishes enjoyed by civilians and officers. Learn about the effect seasonality had on people’s diets. Observe the process of baking bread in a mud oven and meet a Moravian potter plying his wares. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste the flavors of the 18th century and compare and contrast how the 18th century art of cookery influences our diet today. 2nd Saturdays will bring together North Carolina arts, history, and culture
at all 37 of the Department of Cultural Resources’ museums and Historic Sites on June 12, July 10 and August 14, 2010. For more information, visit
