Elk Knob State Park, 5564 Meat Camp Road, Todd, NC

A community-wide potluck open to all with traditional music, cultural demonstrations and activities, all surrounded by the natural beauty of Elk Knob and Snake Mountain. Past demonstrations included corn shuck dolls, cider press, quilting, yarn spinning, pottery, herbalist, grist mill, horse-drawn wagon rides, old-time games and environmental programs. New demonstrations and musicians are added each year. Students from Appalachian State University, under the direction of Pat Beaver, are on hand to collect oral histories and scan in old photographs to document the history of the area. This unique community event celebrates the natural and cultural heritage of the surrounding rural communities of Meat Camp, Pottertown and Sutherland. Music begins at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring their dishes from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and food is served around noon, following a prayer.
