The Virginia State Peach Festival is Virginia’s celebration of one of its star fruits – the peach! The festival traditionally holds a ticketed Saturday night music concert with major bands and barbeque dinner with favorite beverage. The festival has now grown to cover a weekend of celebration and includes a Thursday night gospel sing at Patrick Springs, the Virginia State Peach Pageant on Friday at Rotary Field, and a Saturday Folk Fair celebration at Meadows of Dan. The Folk Fair includes local artisans and crafters, historical demonstrations, and locally grown agricultural products with the spotlight on peaches. This part of the festival is located within 200 yards of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Meadows of Dan exit.

According to Hometown Cooking in August 2001: “Southwest Virginia has been peachy since pre-colonial times. Native Americans harvested the golden fruit long before the first English settlers arrived. Eventually Patrick County, nestled along the Blue Ridge Mountains, gained the appellation, ‘Peach Tree Bottom.’ Bountiful peach trees still flourish in this scenic region and to honor the county’s peach growers, the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce hosts a festival each summer. Naturally, wonderful peach concoctions, such as peach ice cream, peach cobbler, and peach wine coolers, tempt attendees throughout the day. And you’ll find bushels and bushels of just-picked fruit, art and craft exhibits, and live entertainment.”
